The presence and quantity of recycled material in the final product are proven with third-party input and supply chain verification. Certification is required at every stage of production, from the recycling phase to the final transaction with the last seller from business to business. The Material Collection and Material Concentration stages are subject to self-declaration, document collection, and on-site visits, without the necessity for certification. RCS does not address the social or environmental aspects of processing and manufacturing, quality, or legal compliance. The standard can be applied to all products containing at least 5% recycled material.
