The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is taking an important step to increase sustainability in agricultural production and to monitor chemical pesticide use more effectively. The Ministry aims to record the use of plant protection products by implementing a digital tracking system called B-Prescription. With this new application, farmers will now plan in advance which product to use, on how much land, and at what dosage, and this will be linked to a prescription.
Under the system, all prescriptions will be prepared by agricultural engineers authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and created electronically, i.e. in e-prescription format. These prescriptions will be traceable not only at the pesticide sales stage but also at every step of the product’s application process in the field. The aim is to control pesticide use, prevent unregistered applications, and reduce risks to the environment and human health.
The B-Prescription system will initially be implemented in designated pilot regions. Following the pilot phase, the system’s operation will be optimised based on the data and feedback obtained, and it is planned to be rolled out nationwide across Turkey by 2026. Ministry officials emphasise that this application will both encourage conscious farming and initiate a significant transformation process in Turkey’s agricultural policies.
