European organic movement resolution: No hidden GMOs !
At the General Assembly held on 21 July 2023, the members of IFOAM Organic Europe decisively voted to uphold their stance against genetically modified organisms (GMOs), including those derived from New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) such as gene editing.
This voting took place in anticipation of the European Commission’s forthcoming release of a proposal regarding New Genomic Techniques, expected on July 5th. Janusz Wojciechowski, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, was presented with the official resolution of the organic group during an official transfer ceremony, where he assured the organic movement of his attentiveness to the potential effects of the NGT proposal on organic farming.
