Who Needs EN 15343 Certification?
EN 15343, “Plastics—Recycled Plastics—Traceability and Conformity Assessment of Recycling and Recycled Content,” is a European standard that outlines procedures for tracking recycled plastics and calculating their content in products. This certification ensures transparency and quality in the use of recycled materials.
In Spain, Law 7/2022, effective from January 1, 2023, introduced a tax on non-reusable plastic packaging. Companies can reduce this tax proportionally to the amount of certified recycled plastic in their packaging. To qualify for this tax reduction, the recycled content must be certified by an accredited entity under the EN 15343 standard.
Therefore, Spanish companies increasingly demand EN 15343 certification from their suppliers. This certification not only helps meet Spanish tax regulations but also reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and the principles of the circular economy, strengthening business relationships and ensuring compliance with market expectations.
