New Facilitation for Organic Product Imports from Third Countries by the EU

The European Commission signed an important regulation on 14 May 2025. With the amendment to Implementing Regulation No. 2021/1378, new rules facilitating the import of organic products from third countries outside the European Union have entered into force.

The regulation was prepared based on Article 46 of the Organic Farming Regulation No. 2018/848. Thanks to the amendment, certain control bodies authorised by the European Commission will be able to conduct organic product inspections in third countries and issue valid organic certificates for these products.

This step aims to make the import process of organic products into the European Union more efficient and transparent. At the same time, it seeks to reduce the administrative burden in import procedures and ease trade barriers.

The new regulation not only facilitates trade but also provides a strong framework for ensuring the safety and quality of organic products. This will ensure that EU consumers have access to more reliable and traceable organic products.

This development is seen as part of the European Union’s vision to strengthen international cooperation in the field of organic farming. It is also expected to contribute to the global dissemination of sustainable farming practices.
