Product Safety Week Kicks Off in Türkiye: USB Certification at the Opening Conference and International Symposium
The theme of this year’s Product Safety Week is “Product Safety in the Digital Age” — a week aimed at reshaping Türkiye’s product surveillance infrastructure through digital transformation. USB Certification is actively present at both of its major events.
8 June Opening Conference
The Product Safety Week Opening Conference, held on 8 June 2026, was inaugurated by Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat. USB Certification Founder and CEO Nesrin Serin participated as a panelist in the session titled “Redefining Products and Product Safety in the Age of Digital Transformation.” At the event, which USB Certification attended together with our DPP solution partner Beyond Bar Code, Technical and Assurance Director Emre Metin and Beyond Bar Code CEO Suna Akbayır were also present.
Key data from the conference: safety issues were identified in 81% of products inspected under e-import procedures — prompting the suspension of simplified customs procedures for cross-border e-commerce as of 1 February 2026. TAREKS — the Risk-Based Control System for Foreign Trade, a digital platform that conducts product safety inspections on an automated and risk-based basis — recorded a 30% rise in applications in the first quarter of this year, reaching 1.3 million. The AI-powered e-PGD digital inspection system is set to launch shortly. Minister Bolat described the Digital Product Passport as an indispensable tool for ensuring product safety and traceability across the entire supply chain.
10-11 June International Symposium: USB Certification at the Heart of the Agenda
The International Symposium “Product Safety in the Digital Era: What is Next?” takes place on 10-11 June 2026 in Ankara, organised under the Technical Assistance Project for Product Safety in E-Commerce, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Ministry of Trade. With the Digital Product Passport, EU Customs Reform, and e-commerce market surveillance at the centre of the agenda, USB Certification will be taking its place at the symposium. Technical and Assurance Director Emre Metin will be representing USB Certification, while our DPP solution partner Beyond Bar Code CEO Suna Akbayır will be speaking at the session on DPP application structures.
The symposium brings together OECD, the European Commission, CEN-CENELEC JTC 24, the Belgian Market Surveillance Authority, TÜRKAK, TÜBİTAK, BTK, KVKK, GS1 Türkiye, and sector representatives.
