GRTS Takes Its First Steps in Türkiye
Officially launched by Global Standards on 14 September 2026, the Global Responsible Textile Standard (GRTS) marks the beginning of a new standard covering a broader range of fibres in the textile sector. In one of the first GRTS implementations in Türkiye, Veritas Tekstil became one of the pioneering organisations certified under this new standard. The certification process was carried out by USB Certification, an independent certification body authorised to conduct certifications under GRTS.
GRTS: A New Standard for a Broader Range of Fibres
Developed by Global Standards, the Global Responsible Textile Standard (GRTS) stands out as a new standard built on the decades of experience of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
GRTS sets out requirements in the areas of environmental protection, chemicals, human rights, business ethics, due diligence and traceability for textile products processing a broader range of fibres, including plant-based, animal-based, synthetic, man-made cellulosic and recycled fibres.
The standard is based on the processing of textiles made from fibres certified to third-party fibre standards recognised by GRTS, and on meeting the defined requirements throughout the supply chain.
An Important Step for Veritas Tekstil
Taking part in one of the first GRTS implementations in Türkiye, Veritas Tekstil completed the certification process under the new standard and became one of the pioneering organisations certified under GRTS.
For Veritas Tekstil, this certification represents an important step towards evaluating the processing of a broad range of responsible fibres, in addition to cotton and natural fibres, within a proven sustainability framework, expanding traceability processes and supporting opportunities for value-added product development. Mehmet Kıvanç Alay, R&D Engineer at Veritas Tekstil, comments on the significance of GRTS certification for the company:
“With GRTS certification, we believe there is an opportunity to create value-added products by evaluating raw material sources for the different quality characteristics of fibres other than cotton within the scope of sustainability. From a business process perspective, the use of traceable and environmentally friendly fibres will support us in expanding the scope of our existing traceability processes at Veritas Tekstil, while also enabling us to increase our production volume and further develop our customer portfolio.”
USB Certification’s Role in the GRTS Process
Certifications under GRTS are carried out by authorised independent third-party certification bodies. USB Certification, an independent certification body authorised to conduct certifications under GRTS, carried out the certification process for Veritas Tekstil.
For USB Certification, this work represents an important step not only in taking part in one of the first implementations of the new standard in Türkiye, but also in contributing to the evolving sustainability and traceability needs of the textile sector through an independent certification approach.
