As of 1 October 2025, version V1.4 of the Rainforest Alliance Sustainability Standard officially came into effect. The new standard aims to strengthen sustainable agricultural practices worldwide and promote more transparent, fair and environmentally friendly production processes in supply chains.
According to a statement by the Rainforest Alliance, with this update, certificate holders and certification bodies will now be required to comply with the rules specified in the new version. The changes to the standard aim to support sustainability goals while also helping producers achieve more effective results in areas such as combating climate change, human rights, preventing deforestation, and income security.
The new version introduces significant innovations, particularly in data accuracy, traceability systems, fair wage practices, and worker welfare. This is expected to encourage both producers and brands to adopt a more responsible production model.
Rainforest Alliance stated that these updates to the standard were developed following extensive consultations with stakeholders and that the changes are in line with global trends in sustainability.
