The Rainforest Alliance, which plays an important role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices on a global scale, has released version 1.4 of the Sustainable Agriculture Standard. The organisation, which has been promoting sustainability among farmers, businesses and consumers for nearly 40 years, aims to make the certification process more user-friendly and data-driven.
In a statement made by the Rainforest Alliance, it was stated that the new version was prepared in line with extensive feedback from farmers and companies and aims to increase the effectiveness of sustainable agricultural practices.
In addition to the basic principles of sustainable agriculture, the updated standard includes specialised certification solutions that focus on three critical areas: regenerative agricultural practices, resilience to climate change and improving farmers’ livelihoods. The Rainforest Alliance offers these solutions as optional add-ons or standalone modules to existing certificate holders, providing producers with broader market access and the ability to verify their sustainability practices.
The Regenerative Agriculture Standard, the first specialised certificate developed within the scope of these innovations, is planned to be launched in 2025. This standard, which aims to protect and improve soil fertility and increase environmental sustainability through regenerative agricultural practices, aims to create new economic opportunities for farmers.
Rainforest Alliance officials stated that they believe that the updated standard will make significant contributions to global progress in agricultural sustainability and accelerate the spread of sustainability practices in the sector.
