Turkey Elected to FAO Council

Turkey Elected to FAO Council

Turkey has been elected to the Council, the highest governing body of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), for the 2025–2028 term.

In the election held in Rome, in which 141 countries cast their votes, Turkey achieved a significant diplomatic success by receiving 127 votes as the representative of the European group. This membership will provide Turkey with the opportunity to play a more active role in international decision-making processes in the areas of global food security, agricultural policies and sustainable development.

Turkey will continue its representation in the FAO Council by making active contributions to the development of agricultural production, the fight against hunger and adaptation to climate change at both regional and global levels.

The FAO Council is the highest governing body of the organisation, responsible for setting its overall policy direction and making strategic decisions.
