The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Programme (NOP) has updated certification requirements for organic product imports under the ‘Strengthening Organic Enforcement’ (SOE) rule.
Effective 15 July 2025, all companies importing organic products into the United States, including those certified under the Canadian Organic Regime (COR), will be required to obtain certification from USDA-accredited certification bodies.
In this context, only USDA-NOP certified importers will be registered in the Organic Integrity Database. The aim of the new application is to increase reliability and transparency in organic product trade and to provide consumers with stronger assurance.
The USDA states that the regulation will prevent unfair competition in the organic market and strengthen traceability in the supply chain.
