USB Certification signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with İskur Tekstil and Beyond Bar Code (BBCo) on 11 May 2026, during the Belgian Economic Mission held at Swissôtel The Bosphorus in Istanbul. Held under the high patronage of Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium and with ministerial-level participation from both countries, the event represented the most comprehensive Belgian economic engagement with Türkiye since 2012, gathering approximately 450 delegates. The trilateral cooperation established a strategic roadmap on supply chain traceability and EU regulatory compliance within the framework of the Digital Product Passport (DPP).
Under the memorandum, the Belgium-based digital traceability platform Beyond Bar Code and one of Türkiye’s leading textile manufacturers İskur Tekstil joined forces with USB Certification, bringing together manufacturing infrastructure, digital traceability architecture, and global certification expertise under a shared vision. The cooperation aims to integrate compliance activities under regulatory frameworks such as the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and the EU Textile Strategy. The agenda also includes pilot DPP applications in which product-level carbon and environmental performance data are verified by accredited bodies to establish mutual recognition models with the EU market.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, USB Certification Founder and CEO Nesrin Serin and Technical and Assurance Director Emre Metin emphasised that the Digital Product Passport has become a mandatory component for sustainability, traceability, and regulatory compliance in the EU market. The pilot applications are based on the principle that product-level carbon and environmental performance data are independently verified by an accredited body. This approach aims to make Turkish manufacturers’ exports to the European market resilient against regulatory shifts and to secure uninterrupted market access by combining digital innovation with certification expertise.
The event also served as a platform for strengthening long-standing cooperation between Türkiye and Belgium, a major export partner, in the fields of textiles and sustainability. With this trilateral cooperation, USB Certification has extended its support for sustainable and transparent supply chain practices to include stakeholders in Belgium and the broader European market. The organisation continues to provide independent third-party assurance for digital product passport processes and related compliance activities, contributing to international trade conducted in line with sustainability criteria.
